The honeysuckle blooms with wild abandon at Chef’s house. The Chef invites me to lunch, so I walk down the road to his house, a bottle of nice wine in my backpack. Honeysuckle has a variety of species and they’re not all alike. With one, the nectar is edible and tastes like sweet sweet honey, but the berries are poison. With another species, the berries are edible but the nectar is toxic. With some, the leaves are toxic, with others, not. I don’t know the individual species all that well. (I don’t hunt wild mushrooms either.) For the finishing touch to a scrumptious meal, Chef serves me homemade honeysuckle ice cream. The moment of truth………just how much does Chef actually like me? I think I’ll let him take the first bite.
