Right before we left for our latest trip to the library, I saw Lily MilkCow
surrounded by the four little foxes, all whispering frantically at her. Mildred GirlieGirlieCoon was right nearby, so I didn’t ask Lily about the meeting. As we were walking in the door to the library, Lily whispered to me “Foxes! We need to borrow a book about foxes!” “There’s a new one out,” I whispered back. “We’ll get that one.”
So while Millie GirlieGirlieCoon had her back turned, I quickly ran to the front desk & checked out ‘Pax.’ When we got back home, Millie began to get suspicious. The four little foxes were bouncing around, excited. Something’s wrong with this picture, thought Millie.
Millie groaned when she saw the reason for the excitement. “What’s next?” she sighed. ” ‘The Little Prince’?” “Yeah!” shouted the foxes.
“Gee, we don’t even have to go to the library for that,” I said. “I’m sure I have a copy of that right around here someplace.”
Mildred just rolled her big black eyes at me. But she made like a dutiful, literate little GirlieGirlieCoon & read ‘Pax’ to them. (After making me read the ending first to make sure that it had a happy ending.)
Now the four little foxes want a Squishable fox to call their own. They seem to feel it’ll raise their voting rights around here. Well, Mother’s Day is coming. Maybe Wussy Shihtoodle will buy me one.
