!! HAPPY HAPPY SPRING !!
Oh So Sorry! (but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to kill ‘em anyway)
Unfortunately, when the cat’s away…………….
I love my birds but only rarely do I go ahead & let them raise any young. It’s just my personal opinion, but there are already far far too many neglected pet birds bought in the U.S., so when my male & female finches, canaries, Bourke’s parakeets, & button quail decide to play “hook up” with each other, which, naturally they’re going to want to do, I replace the real eggs with fake eggs for them to sit on in their nests. Keeps them happy without adding to the pet bird population in the U.S.
And I keep the eggs to use for litte artsy-craftsy projects. Well, projects have been put on hold for right now. Went out of town for a few days & just returned to find that my Irish cousins, who I had left in charge of the house, found my cache of eggs. And thought it would be great fun to color them for Easter, as a nice homecoming surprise for me.
How does a body say aarrrgggghhhhh!!!!!! in Irish?
The top pic is of colored canary eggs. Middle photo is of finch (blue) & button quail (brown) eggs that they (thankfully) left alone since they thought the dye job might turn out badly due to the colors already on the shells. Bottom pic is of the only three white finch eggs that survived the dye job. So sorry! they said, oh so sorry! So so sorry!! They had no idea how fragile the finch eggs would be & trying to dye them destroyed all but these three.
Am I a happy camper? Not. on. your. Irish. life.
