Big Rock, Illinois population: 1,157
The house was built around 1908-1910 by two farmers who were ready to retire & move into town. It later became known as the “Michael House” when the Michael family moved in. And to this day, it’s known as the Michael House. It became the Big Rock Library in 2009. The library is currently open 19 hours a week & library cards cost $10 per year.
“The only thing that you absolutely have to know, is the location of the library.”
― Albert Einstein
Across the parking lot from the library is the Big Rock Historical Society & Museum. Next to the door of the museum is a handy recycled, repurposed receptable for old, retired, unloved flags.
The museum is only open two hours a week.
To date, they’ve taken in 1800 unloved flags. Which is more than one flag for every man, woman, & child in Big Rock.
I can’t help wondering if anyone has ever mistakenly put a letter in the box to be mailed……..
